We are delighted that you have chosen to obtain information about earning your degree in the Department of Specialized Studies at Roosevelt University. Since 1975, the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) has accredited the College of Education. The Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) approves all certification programs. In addition, the Council for the Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP) accredits the program in clinical mental health counseling.
The Department of Specialized Studies encompasses the following program areas: Counseling and Human Services, Educational Leadership, Language and Literacy, Special Education, and Teacher Leadership.
Counseling and Human Services offers Masters Degrees in Clinical Mental Health Counseling (60 semester hours) and School Counseling (51 semester hours). Educational Leadership offers a 30-semester-hour MA in Educational Leadership which prepares administrators, supervisors, and other educators who aspire to leadership positions which transform schools and communities. The 30-semester-hour Reading MA prepares certified teachers who aspire to enhance their knowledge of reading and literacy instruction. The 40-semester-hour graduate program in Special Education as well as the undergraduate major in Special Education lead to a Type 10 Special Education certificate with LBS1 endorsement. The 30-semester-hour MA in Teacher Leadership is designed for practicing teachers who are looking to further their professional development and leadership skills.
