Schaumburg Institute for Literacy Enrichment

The Schaumburg Institute for Literacy Enrichment is committed to supporting and accelerating the language and literacy development of students in grades K - 8.  Located on the Schaumburg campus of Roosevelt University, the Institute offers Saturday and summer courses that provide diverse learners with enriching and challenging opportunities to learn new skills and strategies, make friends, and deepen their commitment to reading and writing.

SILE 001: Accelerated Literacy

This Saturday class is for K – 6 students who already have demonstrated an above average ability to read with depth, commitment, and accuracy.  Our accelerated program focuses on literature that is above current reading level, and organizes students to read, write, listen, and speak in collaboration with like-minded peers. Enrollment is limited to 20 students; a letter of recommendation from a current teacher or evidence that the student has scored in the top 20% on the reading section of an ISAT exam taken within the last two years is required.  The tuition for this course is $280.

SILE 002: Literacy Enhancement

This Saturday class is for K – 8 students who need additional support, motivation, and knowledge to read and write at or slightly above grade level.  Our highly individualized program focuses on age-and grade-appropriate literature, and organizes students to acquire fluency and strategies with reading, writing, listening and speaking. Enrollment is limited to 20 students; test scores and recommendation letters are not required to register.  The tuition for this course is $280.

SILE 003: Digital Literacy

This Saturday class is for students in Grades 3 – 5 who want to learn how to create their own computer programs. Our program focuses on using programming tools that allow students to learn how to develop, design, and code their own programs.  Enrollment is limited to 12 students; previous experience with computer coding is not required.  The tuition for this course is $350.

** REGISTER FOR SILE 003 **

All courses will be taught by certified teachers who have at least two or more years of teaching experience and advanced degrees or certification in the subject matter.
