ELED Full-Time Tuition Discount

Beginning in Fall 2010, full-time elementary education students who maintain at least a 3.7 GPA in their graduate program of study are eligible for a substantial tuition discount at the end of their program, but the following rules and restrictions apply:

  1. Students must complete the 36 semester hour graduate program, inclusive of all requirements for certification, in no more than 4 consecutive semesters, in order to be eligible for free student teaching during the final semester. In addition, students must be enrolled as full-time students during each semester of study. During the fall and spring semesters, at least 9 credit hours are required for full-time status; during the summer semester, at least 6 credit hours are required.

  2. Students who take more than 4 consecutive semesters to complete the program will forfeit their free student teaching; the same applies if students go on academic probation or suspension, fail to earn a minimum 3.7 GPA in their graduate courses prior to student teaching, and/or fail to meet other certification or course completion requirements.

  3. To earn certification and admission to student teaching, students may have to take courses beyond the ones required for the 36 semester hour graduate program. In addition, students who desire to add endorsements or approvals to their Type 03 certificate may have to take courses beyond the 36 hour MA degree program. Please note that graduate students are not permitted to take more than 12 semester hours of coursework in any given semester without the written consent of the dean of the college in which the student is enrolled. The University reserves the right to limit a student's program when it is obvious that the student has enrolled for more work than he/she can handle successfully.

  4. Students are charged all applicable RU fees every term including the term in which they receive free student teaching.

  5. Please note that the full-time graduate tuition rate applies only to the fall and spring semesters, and is applicable to a maximum of 12 credit hours of courses; courses taken during the summer semester are charged at the part-time tuition rate at Roosevelt University for each credit hour taken.  Please consult with the financial aid office at the start of your program about applying financial aid to the summer semester, and please carefully plan out all of your courses and tuition financing in advance of your initial enrollment.

  6. During the final term of study, eligible students will not be charged tuition for student teaching. However, students must also register for EDUC 480, and pay the tuition for this 3 credit hour course.

  7. Full-time graduate study is very intensive and requires at least 100 hours of observation in schools prior to student teaching.  Full-time students are expected to arrange their work and personal schedules accordingly, and especially should plan out their summer schedules in advance so as to ensure their availability for all class meeting dates and times.  Exceptions will not be made to the requirement that students attend all designated class meeting dates and times.
