Roosevelt University

Banner User Group

The Banner User Group (BUG) consists of selected individuals from each college and key administrative areas who have been designated as "data stewards". [1]

Responsibilities:. The group is responsible for developing the FY2011 annual work plan for Banner related projects by October 29, 2010. The annual work plan will act as a guide throughout the fiscal year for Banner related initiatives for the University. The group may re-prioritize projects based on the guidelines below, and adjust the project schedules as needed. The group may also create and manage teams (sub-committees and work groups) to investigate and resolve issues.

Priority 1 projects:

  • When security of data and programs is in doubt.
  • Production down, causing multiple users to be unable to work.
  • For emergency compliance with government regulations.
  • Program functions inconsistently (not according to specifications), can't rely on results, could cause other problems.
  • Banner maintenance to ensure maximum possible uptime.

Priority 2 projects:

  • Projects that have a direct and quantifiable impact on key strategic initiatives of the University.
  • For routine compliance with government regulations

Priority 3 projects:

  • Internal Reports for various departments.
  • External Reporting, e.g. surveys.

Priority 4 projects:

  • Projects that don¿t have any funding or resources available.
  • Projects simply for convenience of individuals.

Reporting: Twice a year, once before the budget planning process begins and a second time towards the end of the fiscal year, the Technology Steering Committee reviews progress towards the annual work plan, and reviews new technology related needs as proposed by university departments. Therefore, written reports from BUG to the Chief Information Officer are required by January 30, 2011 and by July 31, 2001.

[1] Data stewards are University officials having direct operational-level responsibility for information management -- usually administrative department heads and college assistant deans. Data Stewards are responsible for developing procedures for data access, data retention, data security and the implementation of the Data Governance policy. Data stewards are also responsible for providing a secure environment for non-electronic data, including, but not limited to providing physical security, granting access to users as authorized by data trustees, and implementing and administering controls over the information.
