Roosevelt University and College of DuPage team up on hospitality degree

Posted: 01/24/2012
Roosevelt University and the College of DuPage (COD) signed four 3+1 agreements on Jan. 23 that enable students in COD’s Hospitality Management, Restaurant Management, Culinary Arts, and Meeting & Events Planning degree programs to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Hospitality and Tourism Management from Roosevelt.

The 120 credit-hour degree combines COD and Roosevelt University coursework with 84 credit hours taught by COD faculty and 36 hours taught by Roosevelt professors.  All classes will meet at the Glen Ellyn campus of COD.

Roosevelt President Chuck Middleton (pictured above at left with COD student Samantha Jones at center and COD President Robert Breuder)   said the agreement formalizes a relationship that Roosevelt University’s Steinfeld School of Hospitality and Tourism Management has had with the hospitality and culinary programs at the College of DuPage for many years.

“There is real synergy in this wonderful partnership,” he said, “as it merges two of the state’s outstanding programs in this field of study.”

Samantha Jones, a COD student who plans to take advantage of the new agreement, said it will allow her to “achieve her dream” of earning a bachelor’s degree in hospitality management because the new program is “affordable and comprehensive.”

Schaumburg Campus Provost Douglas Knerr said Roosevelt plans to develop similar 3+1 partnerships with other community colleges.  “These programs allow students with associate’s degrees to easily continue their educations and earn a bachelor’s degree from Roosevelt,” he said.

Under this new agreement, Roosevelt University will accept students who have earned an Associate of Applied Science degree from College of DuPage in Hospitality Management, Restaurant Management, Culinary Arts or Meeting & Events Planning.  Former COD graduates can also be considered for admission pending completion of all prerequisites.
