Fast-track degree in business to be offered beginning in the fall

Posted: 04/12/2012
Roosevelt University has updated its popular fast-track degree program for adults who want to major in business.

“The Bachelor of Professional Studies (BPS) degree in Business was modified to better meet the needs of today’s employers who are looking to hire talented and well prepared business graduates,” said Gregory Buckley, interim dean of Roosevelt’s Evelyn T. Stone College of Professional Studies.

“We revised the curriculum to make it more comprehensive for students starting in the fall 2012 semester.”

Students can earn a BPS degree in Business in as little as three years, substantially reducing time and expense.  Although the admission requirements are the same for both of Roosevelt’s undergraduate programs in business, the BPS requires 99 to 102 credit hours to complete, compared to 120 credits or more for a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree.

In addition, transfer students may waive one senior seminar with nine credit hours of transfer in appropriate disciplines or waive two seminars with either 60 hours of transfer credit or a completed AA or AS degree, further reducing the time and cost of a bachelor’s degree.

“The BPS degree is designed for students who are 24 or older,” Buckley said.  “Since 1966, more than 9,000 adults have earned a fast-track degree from Roosevelt, and we have a proud history of graduating students who have gone on to successful careers or pursued graduate degrees.”

The BPS in Business is available at Roosevelt’s campuses in Chicago and Schaumburg and is ideal for adult students with little or no college or adults looking to earn their degree for professional development and advancement.

Through the BPS in Business, students are able to select a specialized area of study, including accounting, finance, hospitality and tourism management, human resources management, marketing, organizational leadership, paralegal studies, social entrepreneurship and sustainability studies.

BPS programs are offered in Roosevelt’s Evelyn T. Stone College of Professional Studies.  They combine an innovative general education curriculum, designed with the adult student in mind, with traditional core courses within a chosen major.

“The program allowed me to complete my business degree while working full time and raising my sons,” said Mary Gabioud, who was hired as Roosevelt’s multi-media services coordinator after earning her BPS in Business.  “I have always been a reader but a seminar I took in critical thinking opened up a whole new world for me.”
