Peter C. Roberts (pictured above), chief executive officer, Americas for Jones Lang LaSalle, one of the top overall providers of corporate real estate services, will be the keynote speaker and Alvin L. Gorman, chairman, Power Construction Company, the honoree at  Roosevelt University’s 11th annual real estate gala on Thursday, Nov.  1.

Titled “Reaching New Heights,” in celebration of Roosevelt’s new “vertical campus” building at 425 S. Wabash Ave., the event will benefit Roosevelt University’s Marshall Bennett Institute of Real Estate.

The gala, which has raised more than $3.3 million for the Institute during the past 11 years, will be held at the Four Seasons Hotel, 120 E. Delaware Place, Chicago, starting at 5:30 p.m.  Each year the gala is the premier real estate networking event of the year in Chicago with over 500 industry leaders in attendance. The event provides over half of the Institute's annual operating budget as well as support for named scholarships.

“Peter Roberts is one of the most influential people in commercial real estate today, heading up the second largest publicly-traded commercial real estate brokerage firm in the world,” said Jon B. DeVries, director of Roosevelt’s Marshall Bennett Institute of Real Estate. “We are honored to have him as our keynote speaker and look forward to hearing his insights on commercial real estate trends and on what’s next for the industry.”

Since its founding in 2002, the Marshall Bennett Institute of Real Estate has grown to become one of the five largest graduate real estate programs in the country and one of the most diverse. When it was created, the institute had 25 people in its initial class.  Now it now has 60 enrolled students and more than 250 graduates, many of whom now work at Chicago firms.  The institute offers a master of business administration degree with a concentration in real estate, as well as a master of science in real estate.

Roberts is responsible for strategic planning, tactical oversight and senior-level management for Jones Lang LaSalle’s operations in the Americas, which include North and South America and responsibility for more than 15,000 employees across seven countries.   He is also a member of the firm’s Global Executive Committee.  Prior to being named Americas CEO in 2003, Roberts served as Jones Lang LaSalle’s global COO and CFO. He joined Jones Lang LaSalle in 1986.  Under his leadership, the firm’s operations in the Americas have significantly increased in size through a combination of organic growth and mergers and acquisitions, including mergers with Spaulding & Slye in 2006 and The Staubach Company in 2008.

Honoree Al Gorman will receive the Lifetime Industry Leadership Award at the event.  For more than 50 years, Gorman has been actively involved with the construction of major institutional and commercial buildings across the Chicago metropolitan area. Recently, Power Construction was the prime contractor for Roosevelt’s beautiful new Wabash Building, the new home of the Institute.  Other recent projects include the newly opened 1.25 million square foot Lurie Children’s Hospital and the campus transformation for Rush University Medical Center.
