The Gage Loft is located at 18 S. Michigan Avenue, in affiliation wit the famous Gage Group buildings. The building was originally designed by Holabird & Roche for the three millinery firms: Gage, Keith and Ascher and was constructed from 1890 to 1899. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on November 14, 1985. In addition, it is a significant property that contributes to the Chicago Landmark Historic Michigan Boulevard District.

The facade of the building demonstrates the design movement that led to the creation of modern commercial architecture. the building by Holabird & Roche is straightforward, while the facade designed by Sullivan exemplifies his more expressive approach. The exterior of the building features a hand-cast tera cotta facade, and the original storefronts can be found in museums and private collections worldwide. The intimate lobby features marble walls, terrazzo floors and turn-of-the-century wall murals depicting scenes from Chicago's past. The building offers unobstructed and protected views of Millennium Park and Lake Michigan, and is within easy walking distance of Chicago's many cultural attractions, shopping, restaurants and entertainment venues.
