What to Expect in 2013

In this time of looking ahead, we on the Wellbeing Advisory Council want to share with you what we have learned and what lies before us as a community.

Well, how “well” are we?

Here is what last fall’s biometric screenings revealed.

As a whole, we’re doing better.

Roosevelt’s Aggregate Wellness Score increased from 85.2 in 2011 to 87.2 in 2012.

We can improve our numbers.

Sixty-six percent of participants have been identified as Low Risk; 11.7 percent have been identified as High Risk.

We could do more to stave off illness.

Our study of preventive health services use (e.g., mammograms, routine screenings and immunizations) indicated flu shots and colon cancer screenings as the preventive health services with the least utilization.

We want to do something.

We received an overwhelming response from community members indicating their readiness to increase physical activity, lose weight, and better manage or reduce stress.

Based on these findings, we identified key areas that will guide our initiatives in 2013, so that we as a community can take concrete steps toward achieving sustainable physical, emotional, mental, and financial wellbeing.
