Health & Wellness
Current Students

Health and wellness are important for academic success during college.  To assist students in achieving their goals, students and parents are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the following information:

Medical
Roosevelt University does not have a student health center.  However, Michigan Avenue Immediate Care (MAIC) is a health facility located near the Chicago Campus at 104 S. Michigan Avenue, Suite 905.  MAIC offers walk-in treatment for immediate medical concerns but not life threatening emergencies.  MAIC also has diagnostic services such as x-rays and laboratory tests, and offers medical examinations (including appropriate immunizations and prophylactic medications) for those students who might be pursuing overseas travel.  The staff includes full time physicians and medical assistants.  Appointments are not needed.

Students are responsible for making payment arrangements directly with MAIC.  MAIC accepts most major medical plans including Roosevelt’s student health insurance program through Aetna Student Health, as well as cash, Visa and MasterCard. Always remember: for life threatening emergencies, immediately call 911.

Please note that MAIC is an independent entity that is not affiliated with Roosevelt University.

Students living at the residence halls at the Chicago Campus should follow these steps:

  1. Many health insurance plans provide “nurse on-call” or web-based medical services.  Students and parents are encouraged to become familiar with resources provided by their insurance carrier that can provide assistance during an illness.
  2. Report any serious illness or accidents to a Resident Assistant (RA).
  3. If you need to go a hospital and you are not so ill as to warrant an ambulance or you do not have a friend to drive you, the RA on duty will call a cab for you. For insurance reasons, residence hall staff is not permitted to drive students to the hospital, but may accompany you in a cab or ambulance upon your request.
  4. Follow up with your RA as soon as you are feeling better.

Students who have a medical or psychological condition that may require assistance while living on campus should notify their RA and/or the Counseling Center (for psychological conditions only). While confidentiality remains tantamount, it is important that the residence hall staff is aware of personal needs and ways they can assist if a concern or crisis arises.

Pharmacies near the residence halls

There are several pharmacies near the Chicago Campus including Walgreens and CVS. A 24-hour pharmacy is located at the Jewel-Osco grocery store at 1222 S. Wabash (the corner of S. Wabash and Roosevelt Rd.). The pharmacy phone number is 312-663-4646 and fax number is 312-663-6696. Please note that this information is subject to change. This record must contain proof of immunity to measles, mumps, rubella, and diphtheria/tetanus. A second measles immunization with live attenuated virus vaccine is to have been given at least 28 days after the first measles immunization. You must provide these immunization records only once during your enrollment at Roosevelt.  Students who do not have immunization records to verify these vaccinations should immediately contact their physician to obtain a copy of their records or have the appropriate immunizations administered.
