The MATL Program of Roosevelt University currently offers a series of elective courses that will prepare teachers for the National Board Certification process (NBPTS). Beginning in the summer of 2008, each of our National Board courses will be available on-line. We are proud to announce that each of these courses are taught by adjunct professors who are currently practicing as National Board Certified teachers.

The National Board for Professional Teaching Certificate is the “Gold Standard” for teachers nationwide, and carries with it many benefits, including:

  • Portability (it certifies teachers in all 50 states)
  • State stipend (the state of Illinois grants a monetary stipend for 10 years to teachers who achieve certification)
  • District stipend (some districts also grant monetary stipends for teachers who achieve)
  • Opportunities for leadership and mentorship ( certified teachers are paid to mentor other teachers going through the certification process, and are often given opportunities for leadership and/or professional development positions within their own districts, including the Chicago Public Schools)
