School Counseling
Counseling and Human Services | College of Education

The School Counseling Program prepares students to work as professional counselors in an elementary, middle, or high school.

Applications are considered for the Fall term ONLY, according to two deadlines: March 1 for Early Admission and June 1 for Regular Admission.

 

Practicum and Internships

Practicum and internships are located in an elementary, middle, or high school where a variety of counseling services are offered to students.  (Hours required:  100 hours for practica; 600* hours for internship)

*hours vary depending on years of teaching experience

 

Certification

To qualify for the School Service Professional Certificate in Guidance (Type 73), ISBE also requires satisfactory scores on the Illinois Basic Skills and Guidance Tests before issuing a certificate. Click here to go to the certification home page for more information.
