When is Commencement?

Commencement ceremonies will be held in Roosevelt's Auditorium Theatre on Friday, December 18, 2009. In order to accommodate all guests of our graduates for Commencement, there will be two ceremonies. The ceremony for the College of Education, Walter E. Heller College of Business Administration and Evelyn T. Stone College of Professional Studes will be at noon. The ceremony for the College of Arts and Sciences and the Chicago College of Performing Arts will be held at 3:30 p.m.

How do I get my cap and gown?

Visit Traditions USA to place your order. You may also order rings, diploma frames and announcements. You must order by Monday, October 19, 2009 in order to receive your cap and gown for the Commencement ceremony. You will pick up your cap and gown at one of the Salute to Graduates receptions. More details about these receptions are in this newsletter.

When will I hear about my graduation status?

In October we will begin to compile a list of all graduation applicants. A list will be sent to each department requesting approval for each prospective graduate. Once this process is completed, we will inform you, by letter, of your graduation status. Expect to receive this letter later this month.

What are the Salute to Graduates receptions?

These receptions are designed to prepare you with all the materials and information you need to participate in the Commencement ceremony in December 2009.

Chicago
Monday, November 16, noon - 6 p.m.
Congress Lounge, 2nd Floor

Schaumburg
Thursday, November 19, 1 - 6:30 p.m.

Each student who wishes to participate in the December ceremony must attend one of the above receptions. You may attend either reception, but you must make sure to attend the location to which you have your cap and gown sent. If you don’t plan to participate in the ceremony, you may come to socialize with fellow graduates and celebrate your graduation.

Participants need not stay the entire time on either day, but should be there long enough to:

  • Pick up your commencement information booklet.
  • Pick up your cap and gown. (They are yours to keep.)

Cost: Bachelor’s Degree, $33
Master’s Degree, $57
Doctorate Degree, $67
No caps and gowns may be purchased after the Salute to Graduates receptions.

Caps and gowns not picked up at the Salute to Graduates reception will be returned to Traditions USA. If this happens, you will need to contact them and make arrangements to receive your cap and gown. You will incur shipping charges.

At the receptions, you will also be able to do the following:

  • Order graduation announcements and class rings.
  • Have your graduation portrait taken by a professional photographer from Chappell Studios. (Plan to dress accordingly.)
  • Visit with representatives from the Offices of Alumni Relations, Admission, Career Services and Student Activities.

If you are unable to attend a Salute to Graduates reception, you will need to send a representative in your place to pick up your Commencement information booklet, cap and gown. Your representative must have your Roosevelt ID or your ID number and birth date.
