Insight for Parents on Campus Involvement &

Student Activities

Did you know that students may actually do better at a university when they are actively involved on campus?

As a parent, you can contribute to your student's success by encouraging campus involvement and utilizing university resources. Your encouragement to get involved at Roosevelt University may actually improve your daughter’s or son’s college experience!

Research indicates that when college students are actively involved on campus, then they increase their potential for learning and student development (Astin, 1984). Getting involved on campus means students are more likely to have a social network, feel connected to the university community, and return the following semester/year. This increases student retention and leads to a greater number of students successfully completing their degree and graduating!

Here is the variety of ways that Roosevelt students may get involved through the Center for Student Involvement in Chicago and the Center for Campus Life in Schaumburg:

Campus Activities and Programs

The Student Activity Fee supports a wide array of student-focused events.  Each month, the SPEED Activities Boards, student organizations and campus offices sponsor activities for Roosevelt students including free and discounted programs, social activities, cultural programs, educational events, and tickets to theater events, sports, exploratory programs, and performances around Chicago.

Student Government

Students may attend the student government meetings and become a student government representative. By representing the student voice throughout the university, serving on university committees, and attending meetings, students will learn more about the democratic and representative process of student government. There is a student government organization at each campus.

Student Clubs and Organizations

Students may join an existing student organization or create a new student organization. Student organizations include specialty clubs, professional organizations, cultural and ethnic organizations, fraternities and sororities.

Leadership Development

Students may develop their leadership skills and enhance their professional development through the REVEAL Leadership Development Program at the Chicago Campus and the Leadership Development Academy at the Schaumburg Campus. Both programs offer workshop, programs and experienced-based learning on topics of leadership. Students engage in discussions on leadership, leadership theory, leadership experiences, and community service more a more holistic approach to leadership development on campus.

Fitness & Recreation

To maintain a healthy lifestyle, students may work out, join intramurals, or engage in a fitness class. Roosevelt University offer a fitness facility at each campus for students to use free of charge. Wellness programs, fitness classes, and access to a personal trainer are also available for students.
