Letter From President Middleton
Strategic Plan

April 24, 2003

To the Roosevelt Community,

At the April 23 Board Meeting, Roosevelt’s trustees unanimously approved the revised mission statement, vision statement and strategic goals and objectives that you have been working on since the start of this past academic year. This Strategic Plan is a first step, and will serve largely as the launching point for the more substantive and detailed discussions that will lead to the development of the Academic, Financial, Marketing, Technology and Development Plans that are crucial to meeting our goals for student success and academic excellence. I hope we can complete these in the Fall 2003. These five operational plans will take the relevant goals and objectives and turn them into measurable outcomes that we will use first to assess our progress and success, and then second to drive the allocation of our human, financial and physical resources. Once these plans are developed, we will likely need to revisit this Strategic Plan, to modify and strengthen it.

The process itself is organic, continuous, and focused upon success. This bodes well for our future as we work together to continue Roosevelt’s traditions while we meet the challenges of the 21st century.

We all owe a debt of gratitude to the hundreds of Roosevelt faculty, staff, and students who participated in the Town Meetings and the focus groups, or sent in suggestions to and/or served on the Strategic Planning Committee, for the time they have given to develop this document. The Plan is both a reflection of their hard work and the give and take of debate over many months.

This is a dynamic time in the history of Roosevelt University. I am privileged and honored to be a part of our community. I count on the faculty, the staff and others who will be engaged in the ongoing transformation of the University to continue to play a vital role in these discussions and in the implementation of the ideas that will result. Our success depends on each and all of them. I pledge that the administrative leaders and I will work with them and with the Board of Trustees to assure that success.

Sincerely,
Charles R. Middleton
