Roosevelt University’s Career Closet opened in Spring 2019 under the sponsorship of the Office of Student Affairs & Dean of Students. The purpose of the RU Career Closet is to provide access to free business attire and clothing to students for work, interviews, and professional networking conferences and events. The mission of the RU Career Closet is to help students enter the workforce with poise and confidence, knowing that they are making a positive and professional first impression.

The RU Career Closet is open to all Roosevelt University students. Every student is eligible to take up to four items per semester.

Please note that since the RU Career Closet is supported by donations, we cannot guarantee the availability of all sizes and types of items.

The RU Career Closet is open for student use by appointment Monday-Friday 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. (special accommodations as needed).

Donation Information

Roosevelt University’s Career Closet is supported by donations from faculty, staff, alumni, and students. We are seeking donations for new or gently used business/business casual clothing options for both men and women. Donations may be made to Office Career Services (WB 324).

What can be donated?

  • Items must be clean or dry-cleaned business attire that is on a hanger or neatly folded.

New or gently used women’s business attire

  • Suits and separates (jackets, blazers, pants, skirts, and dresses)
  • Collared shirts and blouses in solid colors or with small patterns
  • Black or brown simple belts
  • Black, brown, or nude closed toes shoes (flat or less than three-inch heels)
  • New dress socks
  • New sheer or opaque hosiery (tights, pantyhose, nylons) in black or nude
  • Fashion scarves
  • Handbags in neutral colors
  • Generally, items that are no more than five (5) years old and are in good condition

New or gently used men’s business attire

  • Suits and separates (jackets, blazers, and pants) in neutral colors (black, navy, gray, khaki)
  • Collared shirts in light and non-bold colors, solid or small patterns
  • Solid color ties or ties with small patterns
  • Black or brown simple belts

What can't be donated?

  • Ripped or stained clothing
  • Bright colored clothing
  • Clothing with excessive patterns
  • Undergarments
  • Hats
  • Winter scarves
  • Coats
  • Jeans
  • Joggers or sweatpants
  • T-shirts
  • Gym shoes
  • Children’s clothing
