About this event
Faculty lecture presented by Dr. Ashley Pribyl
Dr. Ashley Pribyl shares her thoughts about Stephen Sondheim's 1970 musical Company, marriage in American culture, and the newest gender-reversed revival. Drawn from her book project, Dr. Pribyl will discuss what the musical says about the institution of marriage in the United States and how that institution has changed drastically over the past fifty years, finishing with why she believes a gender-reversed version makes the most sense in modern America. Her presentation will include photographs of archival documents and clips from multiple productions of the show.
Company is playing at the Cadillac Palace Theatre from October 31st-November 12th.
