In conjunction with the Black Student Union, Roosevelt will host numerous on-campus events throughout February to celebrate Black excellence and provide resources to current students. The entire list of events can be found on Laker Connect.

Black Business Week

The first grouping of themed activities is Black Business Week from February 5-9. Held in Wabash Building 418, these events will emphasize empowerment and enrichment at Black-owned businesses throughout the country:

Money Matter: Mastering Personal Finance: February 5 from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Unlock the secrets to financial mastery! From budgeting to investing, gain practical insights tailored to help you build a secure financial future.

Brand You: Strategies for Professional Branding: February 7 from 4:45 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Elevate your personal brand for success! Learn effective self-marketing strategies for a standout online presence and networking techniques that set you apart in the job market or entrepreneurial ventures.

The Black Business Expo: February 9 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Step into a world of innovation at our exciting showcase! The Black Business Expo is your opportunity to explore groundbreaking products and services, network with dynamic entrepreneurs and champion the vibrant Black business community. Engage, connect and celebrate excellence!

Black Love & Wellness Week

Black Love & Wellness Week is dedicated to cultivating love, empowerment and meaningful discussions on campus. These events will also be hosted in Wabash Building 418. 

See Melanin, See Beauty, See Me: February 12 from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. Create an atmosphere of self-love and empowerment! Distribute mirrors for a personalized affirmation activity, encouraging open discussions on workplace experiences, challenges at predominantly white institutions and the broader context of being Black in America. Let diverse perspectives shine.

Melanated Conversations: Dating Debates: February 15 from 4:45 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Engage in thought-provoking discussions on controversial topics within the Black community. Dive into diverse viewpoints, fostering understanding and aiming to reach a common ground on matters related to love, relationships and community.

Dynamic Discourse Week

Dynamic Discourse Week will be hosted in the STEM Center and spotlight Black success in scientific careers as well as issues facing the community today.

Trailblazers of STEM: Black History Month Trivia Challenge: February 28 from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Test your knowledge and celebrate the impactful contributions of Black scientists, engineers, technologists and mathematicians in our STEM Trivia. Explore the rich legacy of innovation and progress in STEM!

General Body Meeting: Hot Topics: February 29 from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. Get ready for a thought-provoking session on hot topics in the Black community, inspired by the format of Jubilee Spectrum. Stand on the spectrum from strongly disagree to strongly agree as we delve into meaningful discussions.
